Capsule History: Andrew, or Drew
to those who know him was born on
Aldebaran (formerly Aldebaran
Colony) thirty years ago to Starfleet
parents (Michelle and Walter,
both retired). Shortly after he was
born, they moved back to Earth
as they both served in Starbase
Operations Division. Most of his
childhood was spent in the Mojave
settlement, a sprawling metroplex
that occupied a former desert region.
He spent most of that time entrenched
in building model starships, and
old naval vessels. He was captivated
by not only how things worked,
but how they we assembled, spending
hours and hours just to make
certain things were "just right".
This love lead him to pursue
engineering pre-classes during
his education. He was a shoe in for
Starfleet Academy, and enrolled
shortly after his 20th birthday. He
was kind of a late starter as
he had decided to take a two year
apprenticeship with a construction
yard that orbited Mars. From his
vantage point, he could often
see the huge Utopia Planitia Yards, both
orbital and surface facilities
and would spend most of his off hours
just looking over the vast facilities
and getting acquianted with how
the Starfleet approach to ship
building worked.
He graduated fourth in his class
four years later and was assigned to
the Engineering Team for the Brandenburg,
an Oberth class vessel
assigned to cataloging the Atrim
sector. He served with distinction
aboard the vessel, and when his
Team Leader was promoted to Engineering
XO aboard the Surveyor, he transferred
to that ship as well.
The Surveyor was an earlier model
of Intrepid captained by Morgan
Bateson, a Starfleet officer from
the 23rd century who had been trapped
in time for nearly 80 years by
a spatial anomaly. He found the captain
very approachable and manager
to spend some time hearing stories from
the captain about "how things
were". He lead his particular Team to be
the most efficient team on the
ship, being sometimes compared to Cmdr.
La Forge. In fact, his unofficial
nickname aboard the Surveyor was
'Geordi'. Within his tour, he began
to be anxious for more
responsibility and was able to
successfully transfer to the Yeager, who
was looking for an Engineering
XO.
The ship was a mess when he found
it, having been caught in a raid by
the Breen. She needed major work,
but within 11 months, was
spaceworthy once again. He served
proudly aboard the vessel until it
was diverted to Bajor Sector to
help with the relief efforts, and Lt.
Maxwell, his Chief Engineer, suggested
to him that he might consider
going for the "big chair". He
had put Drew's credentials past Admiral
Ross of Sector Command and within
three weeks of arriving in the Bajor
Sector, he was bidding his crewmates
and ship farewell, posted to the
USS Marakesh as her chief engineer,
to replace one that was killed in
some kind of explosion.
He is interested in the 23rd century,
particularly the events that
occured during the era of Kirk
(not a Kirk worshipper, but is intrigued
by the events of the day).
Has a fiance (Lela Latimer, an
engineer on Starbase 375) that he hopes
to marry within the next year.
They havent decided who's going to quit
when they do get married (the
whole "working for your spouce" issue).
He fancies himself a bit of a
Kal-Toh player. He's good, for a human.
